Katy Perry's dropped her third album worldwide today. Prism, the name of the album, have been praised by most of the media as nothing but hits. I'm curious to listen to it whether it's true or not. Teenage Dream was that, let see if Prism can be that.
Please be remind though, over the time, my love for this songs might change. This is via first impression, only.
Roar
I stood to my opinion that this song is the less meaningful but more catchy version of Sara Bareilles' Brave.
Dark Horse
I like ET and this song is the ET of Prism, might be even better that the latter. I like this side of Katy. Swag side. A strong song, but it's a shame it is not the official single. Love it.
Walking On Air
This is the dance side of Katy Perry. God damn it. She definitely know what song is a good pop dance song. The repetitive chorus is addictive.
Legendary Lovers
Ooh, some India's influences. I think it is definitely inspire from the Taj Mahal's love story. Another catchy song, a hit. That fast singing part is blending well with the song. And the "la la la" in the chorus, genius. The break? I can imagine she's doing some India's dance in the music video, if any.
Birthday
Got that Bruno Mars' Treasure vibe to it and the continuation vibe from California Gurls. This is not new from Katy but why fix it when it is not broken, right? Still a knock out.
Unconditionally
I've been looking for the "Thinking of You" song in the album and this one is it. I'm suspicious that this song is for Russell Brand. Singing Unconditionally, the word, not a brilliant choice but it's okay, the message is get through.
This Is How We Do
The song that is here for the sake of completing the tracklist. Not a good one but not a bad one too. Next!
International Smile
About to go to a snoozefest after the last one but she managed to pick me up to international with this. A pop song with the same equation as Last Friday Night but a less attractive outcome.
Ghost
Finally, a ballad pop with an upbeat chorus. Win? Halfway. But seriously, Katy know how to make a good pop song. Good ending.
Love Me
So, the album start to go slow and slower. After This Is How We Do, the album start to lose it's spark, in terms of it brilliantness.
This Moment
Very Robyn-ish. Remind me of Dancing On My Own. One thing I did notice is that Katy didn't challenge her vocal much with this album. She didn't take it to the next level, instead she's staying at the same pace as her previous album.
Double Rainbow
Not as good as Not Like The Movie but one of the standout ballad in the album. This is the first time I heard Katy using the hustling note. Good for her.
By The Grace of God
As soon as Katy's singing, I knew I'm gonna like this song. This is the classic ballad. She channel her inner Leona Lewis in this song; not the voice, but the song. Too bad, the chorus didn't deliver.
p/s: Not a bad pop album and also not the greatest pop album. Better than Teenage Dream? No but definitely heavier than the latter. Some of the song that I recommend are Unconditionally, Legendary Lover, Walking On Air and Dark Horse (my favorite).
