The John: Melaka & Langkawi (Part 1)

Hey y'all. It's time of the year, another adventure for The John. This is the third year we did this. You can check out the first edition HERE and the second HERE.

This year, we decide to go to West Malaysia. A first time for the four of us as siblings and the very first time for my brother, Mike who obvs never been here before. Actually we had another one with us on the trip, my sister's boyfriend but he dropped out at last minute, so we going as four. The whole trip were from 13/9 to 18/9 (originally but dragged to 19/9 but more on that in Part 2).

Our flight to KUL is at 9pm+ but was rescheduled to almost 10pm. That put our plan to go direct to Melaka after the landing needed a change. We arrived at KLIA2 at about 12pm and we go straight to the bus ticketing counter and were told the first bus to Melaka will be somewhere around 6am. We could used an Uber or Grab but it's too expensive. Beside, if we used such transportation at this very hour, we'll be arriving at Melake early in the morning and what's there to see at such hour, so we decided to stay the night in KLIA2. Luckily, we found a place to sleep with various other nationalities on the same floor. It was a make it work moment for us. Gotta catch some Z's for tomorrow.

After some cleaning and breakfast, we finally on the bus to Melaka. I've been to Melaka before, this is my third time here. As familiar I am with the city, outside of it, I have no idea. Maybe one day, I'll go again. Anyway, arrived at Melaka around 8am and we went straight to our hotel, Fantasy Hotel, to drop our baggage before proceed with a walk around the city. I know all the places in the city by walk distance, so that's why we decided to stay at the city until later that night on the same day.

Sleepy selfie, minutes before arriving at Melaka. I was sleeping the whole way through, which took about two hours. 

Our first spot, the closest to our hotel was the Maritime Museum. We were with a bunch of school kids during that visit. What we don't know while planning for the trip was that the date that we chose is the date for kids out of school. Oh well, lesson learned. And then, we go to the Jonker Street, though there is not much to see at such early hour since the street is lively at night.

Then we make a stop at St. Francis Xavier's Church, St. Paul's Hill and back to the red square or the Stadthuys. Never had a chance to go into the church at the square before as i went to Melaka before with my muslim friends.

Also a first for this trip to Melaka for me personally is a beca ride. Thank God the beca that me and sister, Roseline is nice looking compared to Mike and Jacq's. In between the ride, they dropped us at A'Famosa Fort and Melaka Sultanate Palace. After the beca ride, we went back to our hotel check in into our room and take some shower which the last time we did was back in Miri. Before all that, we had our lunch at my favorite place to have a delicious ayam penyet which is Wong Solo. That brought back the memory when I used to eat at the same franchise back in Shah Alam.

After settling in, we went for some shopping trip at Mahkota Parade and Dataran Pahlawan Megamall but I only managed to grab a sweatpants and a sweatshirt at the Jonker's H&M store. I wasn't planning on buying things at the store, just accompanying my brother for his needs but i ended up getting two and he's with none. Typical me. 

After some shopping spree, my first, went to the Menara Taming Sari. It was fun, especially seeing my brother and my sister reaction when the structure ascending. Both of them were literally stuck to their seats. Lucky for me, I have no fear of height. Me and Roseline were enjoying the view and the experience. 

After that fun experience, we pack our things and check out and head to Melaka Sentral for our next destination which is Langkawi. We use the 9pm bus to the Kuala Perlis.
