THE COLOR PURPLE

This movie is nominated for 11 Oscars Awards although did not receive any but still thought to be one of the greatest movie in 1980's and even now. The movie telling us a stroy of Celli as she grown up in early 1900's. There are many challenges and witnesses of others live in that way including the very respectable live of Sophia (Oprah!!!).

Some memorable quotes (from IMDB) :
Celie: [to Shug] He beat me when you ain't here.
Shug: Who do? Albert?
Celie: Mister.
Shug: Why he do that?
Celie: He beat me for not being you.

Sophia: All my life I had to fight. I had to fight my daddy. I had to fight my uncles. I had to fight my brothers. A girl child ain't safe in a family of men, but I ain't never thought I'd have to fight in my own house!

Miss Millie: You kids are so clean. You wanna come work for me, be my maid?
Sofia: Hell no.

Oprah Winfrey characters really outshine other. I don't know she act that good (in fact, she nominated for Best Supporting Actress at Oscars) because i doubt she can act as good as Whoopi but, i'm so wrong. This movie really bring us back to early 1900's and you feel that you are one of them. The storyline is perfect. The only thing that bother me is that, the slang their used in the movie. Its African slang and if you are not familiar with it, it really hard to catch up with what it saying especially if you watched the movie with no subtitles. Overall, this is a masterpiece!
