I get to spent my weekend in heart of Kota Kinabalu after I refused to go to Ranau, or anywhere else. I just wanted to do stuffs and learn the way in the city. I was actually planning to go to the city all by myself, buy some stuffs and come back to the apartment but suddenly, Tita has a plan for me and her. Since she is one of my bestfriend and that we were actually going to a wedding ceremony, so I'm up for it.
Unfortunately, we aren't able to attend the wedding due to the transportation matter. It would be nice to witness a wedding, Sabah style but God's have a better plan, I guess. So me, Tita and Noy went for movie outing instead and I ended buying two pair of shoes. One for running, one for skating. Skating? Nah, I just happened to like the shoes. I will used it to stomp stomp in the city. We watched Riddick, and I would be pissed if I paid RM12 for the movie but thank God, I just need to pay for RM5. That is definitely the lowest fare to watch a movie in Malaysia.
Travelling in Sabah is not complete without trying its local delicacy. Since Tita is a Suluk, basically I ate food which are native to the Suluk. I must say that they like it spicy and sour, not altogether. There is this one menu where inside the bowl contain minced meat with spicy black soup. So black, you can't even see the bottom. It remind me of the crude oil, thank God it's delicious. Only too spicy for my taste. I forget the name of that menu which usually served in wedding ceremony but i remember Itum, which mean black in Sulu.
Blank-Itum. Sedap & byk daging.
I also get to taste the kuih muih of Suluk, which is mainly sweet. I'm impressed. I like the fried banana coated with sugar. It mixed very well with the hard sugar texture with ooey gooey of the banana. Later that night, we go to Pasar Filipina (amazingly, we just have to travel by foot to all of this place in KK). What makes it so special is that the seafood is fresh and stunningly big, the market itself is big with an environment nothing likes other market. If you know your way, you will have the best and cheapest deal. We bought some seafood and brought it home since for dine in, you have to pay for the table. I like this green grass-colored grapes-looking menu. It taste like egg white with sea water. Yes, that unique.
The night at the waterfront is lively and calm at the same time. It is a good place to relax, chill and chatted with your friends. There are a ton of Western restaurants nearby. As I said to Tita, an ideal place for one to propose to his/her love one.
On Sunday's morning, we strolled around Gaya Street and see what is up. It was cool, nothing like Uptown Shah Alam due to the fact that a lot of foreigner was there. At one point, I heard a Chinese (with thick Mandarin accent, might be from China) said that there are too many people. Yes, as many as the number of visitor, it wasn't that intimidating for a crowd-freak like me. I didn't buy anything as I have 12 more weeks in KK.
Tita @ Gaya Street.
Overall, now I start to like KK. It is easy to move around and there are a lot of attractions and places to go to.
p/s: Very thankful and grateful to the hospitality provided by Tita & Noy. :)
